Frequently asked questions
Is peanut allergy related to other allergies?
Peanut allergy is not directly releted to other allergies, but some people are more likely to develop allergies to things in general, so if they have an allergy to one thing, there is more likelihood they could also develop an allergy to another, apparently unrelated, allergen.
What sort of people are more likely to develop allergies?
People who are atopic. Atopy is a condition which means people are likely to produce an excess of immunoglobulin E in response to exposure to certain ellergens.
Does allergy run in families?
Yes, people with atopy are likely to have at least one close relative who has the condition.
Is it possible to test yourself for allergies, without going to the hospital?
Yes, self testing kits are available, with them you can test yourself for a range of known allergens, which can identify which types of substance you should avoid, and perhaps just as importantly, may allow you to use some products you thought may be harmful to you but tested clear.
You can order them online, click - Multi Allergy Screening Test
Can it go away?
Generally not. In a few cases of peanut allergy developing
in children, they may grow out of it, but this is unusual and great care
should be taken, as the allergy will most often continue and in many people
it will get worse over time.
